It all started a few years back in mid 2006 in Orlando, FL.  John Reed, a recent UCF Graduate, started setting up group buys for DIY Video HD projector kits on the lumenlab.com forum. With his background as a civil engineer and his love of optics & electronics he was able to piece together DIY Video projector kits, purchase LCD panels, controllers, lenses & light sources at affordable prices for people wanting a DIY style kit. Some of our best customers today were members of the lumenlab.com forum community where we got our start. As sales increased through 2007 John needed help keeping up with orders and decided to get his long time friend Vincent Falcone involved helping piece together and shipping the kits. Vincent has a background in computers and electronics and has been working as a computer network engineer since 2000.

As market conditions changed and the availability of commercial HD projectors became less expensive there was a shift in the market for an affordable compact true HD monitor for use in video production. So in response to market demands, in early 2008 Manhattan LCD LLC was born. Before Manhattan LCD released its first monitor, the highest resolution on camera LCD monitor with a HDMI port available was 800x480 and cost over $1000. Our first actual complete product was the HD109A HD monitor it featured a resolution of 1366x768 and excellent viewing angle and brightness and was priced at $699 it was a real hit. Unfortunately the LCD panel was discontinued by the manufacturer soon after the products release only around 100 HD109A monitors were ever sold. With the demand for a true HD small HDMI monitor with excellent viewing characteristics Manhattan LCD decided to make a monitor with a more popular size screen that would not be discontinued so soon and the HD089A was born. It had a resolution of 1024x600 and can accept a native signal of 576P, the beginning of the HD spectrum. Soon after that we upgraded the LCD controller from the older MST to the more advanced PW338 and in early 2009 the HD089B quickly became our best seller. Not wanting to ruin a good thing we have stood by our original design of an affordable HD Monitor and continue to improve on the design and firmware in the controller. Not forgetting our roots we still offer DIY kits and we have 6 different models of HD LCD monitors ranging in size from the 5.6 inch HD5 to the very versatile HD8900 with HDSDI all of which are true HD and start under $1000.

In mid 2010 we hired another employee to keep up with production and moved out of Johns 2 car garage and into a commercial building in Oviedo FL. We have come a long way from our humble beginnings and we still have a long way to go. Our goal is eventually to be large company similar in size to Visio offering many niche audio/ video products at affordable prices and continue to provide our customers with excellent customer service and support. All of our monitors are hand assembled in the USA by legal US citizens earning an honest wage and we intend it to stay that way for the foreseeable future.
